About SVG Scan How tracing and local processing work

From image to editable paths

No servers, no AI guesswork, no dependencies. A small, readable JavaScript engine turn pixels into paths in four passes, inside a Web Worker so the page never stutters.

  1. Quantize

k-means++ in the OKLab color space picks a palette that matches what your eye sees, then every pixel snaps to its nearest color.

  2. Clean

Anti-aliasing halos fold back into their neighbours, specks merge away, and slices of one gradient rejoin into a single shape.

  3. Trace

Each color is walked along its pixel edges into closed loops, and tucks a few pixels under its neighbours so seams never show.

  4. Fit

Real corners are snapped sharp, the rest is fit with least-squares BΓ©ziers, and shaded regions get linear or radial gradients.
